1. What Is a Proximity Sensor Switch?

The ST13 proximity sensor is a switch that uses short-range infrared sensing technology. The sensor switch operates by emitting short-range infrared rays with a maximum detection distance of 5 cm. When an object covers the sensor head, the light will turn ON, and when the object is removed, the light will immediately turn OFF. It is mainly used for cabinet doors or similar locations: when the door is opened, the light turns ON, and when the door is closed, the light turns OFF, or vice versa depending on the installation method. Highly suitable for recessed installation in kitchen cabinets and wardrobes is commonly used for wardrobe doors, kitchen cabinets, emergency exit doors, and alarm applications when someone opens a door (when connected to an additional alarm siren), and more.

3. Where Is the Proximity Sensor Commonly Used?

• Homes (for wardrobes, kitchen cabinets, and doors): Install the sensor inside wardrobe doors, kitchen cabinet doors, windows, or back doors. Simply connect it to an LED tube light, LED ceiling light, and more. When the door is opened, the light turns on automatically, making it very convenient. It can also be connected to an alarm siren for anti-theft purposes.

• Stores and showrooms (display cabinets for valuable products): Install the sensor inside the display cabinet and connect it to an indicator light and an alarm siren in parallel. If someone opens the cabinet without permission, the light will turn on and the siren will immediately sound an alarm.

• Apartments, residential buildings, office buildings, and factories (for emergency exit doors, cold-room doors, etc.): Most emergency exit doors and cold-room doors are required to remain closed. If someone opens them, the alarm siren will sound immediately. In cases where the door is allowed to open for passage but must be closed again promptly, if it remains open for more than 10–30 seconds, the siren will sound to provide a timely warning. (Note: An additional time-delay relay must be installed for this application.)
